our weekend getaway with the burkes

the weekend of march 11, 2011 the four of us headed out with the burkes, plus their niece alexis to spend the weekend high up in the smokey mountains! the cabin we had gave us amazing views of mt. le conte..which just happened to be covered in snow from the snow that fell the day before. the mountain was breathtakingly beautiful. friday night, we enjoyed dinner at the cabin. we had chicken nuggets from chick-fil-a, fresh potato salad and rancho beans. for dessert we had some super yummy strawberry shortcakes. the kids enjoyed a dip in the hot tub and we all played several rounds of pool.

on saturday morning, we headed out for a big breakfast at flapjacks then on to the ripley's aquarium of the smokies. our weather was amazing considering two days before we woke up to snow! we enjoyed weather in the low 70's which made walking around downtown gatlinburg wonderful! we checked out some of the other ripley's attractions and snacked on deep fried oreos. later that evening, we headed back to the cabin and geared up for the feast we were about to partake in! we grilled new york strip steaks, tilapia, shrimp scampi, loaded baked potatoes and corn on the cob. after being completely stuffed, we took a dip in the hot tub, played some more pool, snacked on popcorn and cookies and then headed to bed!

on sunday, my parents joined us at the cabin and we headed out to cooter's garage, to eat at the chop house and do a little shopping at the outlets. while the women (and easton) shopped the guys and kids headed over to old mcdonald's farm for a couple rounds of putt putt golf. then it was back on the road to head home and back to reality. we always have the most fun whenever we getaway with the burkes. below is a slideshow of our weekend...the pictures are not in order....
